History and origin of avocado
The avocado is originally from Mexico. The evergreen laurel plant belongs to the family of the Lauraceae and the botanical name is Persea americana. The fruit has many other names and is also known as butter fruit, alligator pear or avocado pear. Today, the avocado is grown almost everywhere in the world and has been cultivated mainly in Spain, Africa, Australia, California and also Israel.
Depending on the variety, the avocado fruits can be either green or reddish-brown as well as black. The avocado can weigh up to 1.5 kg.
