Where does the real Valerian come from?
Valerian is available in many different subspecies, but only the real Valerian works particularly well. Only the little Valerian, whose botanical name is Valeriana diocia, can achieve a similar effect to the real Valerian. The real Valerian (Valeriana officinalis) can grow up to 2 meters high and usually has beautiful juicy green leaves. The white to pink flowers are funnel-shaped and can be seen in the months of May to June. During this time, the Valerian also emits a very sweet smell.
Real Valerian is found almost everywhere in Europe, but is mainly grown in Eastern Europe, Holland, Germany and England for medicinal use. This is then produced as a drug for the central nervous system and the heart. Valerian loves forest edges or the moisture of shore meadows, as it is part of the wetland plant and can therefore cope very well with short-term flooding. Valerian, however, cannot cope with drought. But it is frost-resistant and loves sunny to semi-sun places.
Ingredients of Valerian
In real Valerian, far more than 100 ingredients have been detected. The most important, however, are monoterpenes, such as myrtenol, campher, bomeol and bomylacetate. Chlorogenic acid, hersperidine acids as well as coffee acid as well as sesquiterpne are also contained in Valerian. Sesquiterpenes are mainly faurinone, acetoxyvaleric acid, valerenol and hydroxyvalrenic acid.
Other ingredients of Valerian include essential oils, which are contained at 1 percent. The sleep-promoting effect is attributed, for example, to hydrophilic lingan olivil, which also protects the brain from overload.

Valerian and proper dosage

When taking the right dose and or following the dosage, Valerian has only benefits and almost no side effects. It is excellent for calming, exam anxiety or even stress and is also a very good remedy against difficulty falling asleep.
