The Charoit is a mineral found exclusively in Siberia and is very rare. In stone science, the Healing Stone is still quite young, which is why many applications have not yet been fully clarified. Nevertheless, experience with the mineral as a healing stone could already be made.
Charoit Origin and History
The Charoit was first found in 1948 in the area around the Chara River in Siberia. It is found exclusively in this area, which is why the river is also named. However, the actual deposit of the violet rock was only discovered in the 1960s by the Irtutsk geologist couple Rogow in the area of the watershed between the Chara and Tokko, its tributary. In the 1970s, the Charoit deposit was examined in more detail, and in 1976 the mineral was described. Since 1978, the Charoit has been a recognized mineral in the LIST of IMA. The noble and healing stone is known exclusively under the name Charoit. Since it is a very young gemstone, there are no historical traditions to it. Since it is only mined in Siberia, it was used for a long time only by the locals. In Siberia it served mainly as a gemstone, but was also used as a protective stone against evil spirits. The inhabitants of Siberia are said to have cooked and drunk the stone in tea in order to increase their defences, especially in the cold winters of Siberia.

Basically, it does not matter which shape the stone has, however, raw mineral usually has very sharp break lines. Crucial for use as a healing stone is the pleasant feeling when in direct contact with the skin. In meditation, the charoit is currently rarely used, if only with personal preference for this healing stone. In stone circles, however, the Charoit is very often to be found, where it can be optimally combined with many other stones. Although gemstone water, essences and elixirs can be made from the Charoit, they are hardly used in stone science. Charoit water is very strong and should therefore only be produced by an experienced expert (e.g. trained naturopath) and used under his supervision – at least internally.
